Don't Give Up

I have a friend back home who shared to me her psychiatric nursing experience. Part of her curriculum was to go to the mental institution to learn and gather information about her assigned client. Her two week experience in there taught her a lot. She said that what she saw was quite depressing but she tried to be strong and not get affected to keep her going.

I’ve learned from my friend that most mentally ill persons were the ones taking prohibited drugs to the point of abusing them. It’s also a sad reality that most of them belong to well to do family. They could have used their money for a better purpose. Instead, they spent their money on drugs, had the methadone addiction until they were sent to the institution for they cannot take care of themselves anymore. Finding a cure for this takes a long process. They have to be treated, evaluated and later sent to rehabilitation center.

But if you are a parent to the child suffering from drug addiction, all you have to do is provide support. It helps if you communicate often and listen to what your child is saying. Usually, a child who resorts to addiction had a very low self-esteem. But with your continuous support coupled with prayers, your child will find the right path again.
