The Flashflood in Cagayan de Oro City

I don't know but, looking at this picture I am reminded with what happened in Cagayan de Oro, my beloved city. This beautiful picture is located in Biloxi/Ocean Springs Mississippi which was badly hit by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The reported deaths caused by Katrina were 1,836 in 7 states. On December 16, 2011, the Tropical Storm Washi (Bagyong Sendong) struck Northern Mindanao, Philippines. The long hours of rain caused a flashflood and the reported deaths reached to more than a thousand and more than a thousand missing. It was devastating and so catastrophic especially for us, Kagayanons.This beautiful place claimed so many lives but, they managed to survive and I saw the ruins and I saw how high the water level was. The house of my father-in-law was damage totally. I believe in my heart that my city will rise up just like them. It is when they lost not one but three to six members of the family because of the flashflood.It's been two weeks since and most of the victims are still in the evacuation areas. Half of them are homeless and some of them cannot go home because of the mud. There is no water and electricity since day one making it harder for most of the victims. Despite of the situation, hundreds of Volunteers are there to keep the evacuation area in order and systematic. Help arrived on time, thanks to all the nameless generous people who heed the cry of help from the victims.

A week ago, my husband returns the rental car to the airport and I accompany him because I wanted to ride the bus. It was my first time having to ride a public transportation here in the US and I was humbled with the experience. It was six o'clock in the morning and most of the passengers are workers along downtown areas. I cannot help myself right now but cry. It was Thursday, I saw the wall post of my friend saying "busy packing and cooking... it's children's Christmas party today. it's almost christmas break! rest, have fun and party party!" Friday came, storm hits hard in Cagayan de Oro City, the flash flood takes so many lives and her kids perished. How can we comfort someone who lost three children? To my friend, you know who you are, please be strong. Your children are in heaven now and they will be watching you. Tight hugs to you teacher friend. "Bagyong Sendong" or Storm Washi is the worst Tropical storm to hit my home city Cagayan de Oro. I grew up in a neighborhood along the river banks and the river is our playground. I was in elementary grades when flooding brings misery to our neighborhood but, nothing compared to what happened last Friday. It came like a thief in the night and brought so much anguish, deliberate distress and death. May God bless my city, Cagayan de Oro and may God bless us with wisdom and understanding so we may comprehend his purpose to all these trials.

We have been watching all the Republican political debates on Direct TV jacksonville. It is making me feel like a total grown-up! I mean, when did that happen? It is like I blinked my eyes and I am curled up on my couch with my husband, two kids sleeping in their beds, in my own home, after working a work day as a teacher. It all happened so fast. That is how life seems to work. You close your eyes for a minute and time flies by. Anyways, back to the debates, I am driving my husband crazy! Every time a candidate answers a questions I am all like, “That was a good answer”. He is not the same. He has one candidate that he likes. Whatever any other candidate says is totally wrong to him. Things are more black and white for him. Whereas, I am actually watching the debates to decide who I want to be the next candidate. I am just glad that Herman Cain is out of the race now so I don't have to keep hearing his 9-9-9 plan.

Weekend Getaway

My husband and I went to a wine festival and it was just two-hour drive from Orlando. We had no activity last Saturday so; we decided to visit a friend but, we saw trade show displays from the highway. We were just curious why there are so many cars heading to the direction of the display. As we follow the flow of traffic, it directed us to the winery. They have free wine tasting, a live music festival, and food displays from local vendors. The place was jam packed with guests and visitors from all over the country. They have tourist buses too. The winery had this festival for many years every Christmas. People are buying the wines because the wine prices for holidays are down with huge deals.

Their store inside has unique artwork decor and most of the displays were for sale. At both entrance there were logo floor mats with the name of the winery company. Anyway, after the wine tasting, the line was directed to the photo or exhibit booths. It was fun and exciting! There were other companies that joined in the celebration such as a chocolate company that became the partner for the wine tasting. The whole area is very jolly, colorful and because of the exhibit booths, the event was entertaining, informative and fun.

A Christmas Card From the Prison

We got this Christmas card today and it came from a woman who is in a Federal Prison Facility. Her crime is minor but, she was convicted for 6 years in prison. She served a year now and so far, she managed to go on from a day to day basis. Her life in prison is tough because she is away from her husband and family. She is away from all the comforts of life. But, she learn the hard way and she accepted the fact that she made a wrong decision.This Christmas, we should remember the people who are sick in the hospital and those who are in prison. For me, as long as they change their ways and they strive to become a better person, we should not judge them. They deserve a second chance. They too needs to feel the Spirit of Christmas. If you have friends and family who are in prison, visit them and give them a simple gift. That is precious for this Christmas season. Merry Christmas everyone!

A Thoughtful Family from Louisiana

Last July, my husband and I met a beautiful family from Louisiana. They came for a short vacation here in Orlando and we were so lucky to have finally met them. For almost three years, I have known Kathy as a well-spoken blogger, a happy wife and a very patient mom to her two pretty princesses. We get along well especially when we talk about our favorite NFL team, "Who Dat" SAINTS. Oh well, she can calm me down when I flare up from pity arguments. She is the most patient person that I have known in Blogland, so pretty and yet, very down to earth. Anyway, I received this Christmas photo card today and I am so grateful! As I look back on the milestone of my Blogging business, I have so much to thank God for all the blessings that He had given me. In my mind right now, I have three major reasons that I could think of. First, through blogging I can rant without the intervention of those who are politically-correct individuals. Epcot Theme Park at Disney World in Orlando

I took these pictures to show you the inside look of Epcot Theme Park at Disney World. If you visit my other blogs, I posted some pictures on the ferry boat ride to Epcot. It is interesting to use the ferry boat as transportation to the Disney Theme Parks because amazing views by the lake is truly breathtaking. The first country that we saw from the entrance is United Kingdom.Hubby and I wanted to just walk on the main street of Epcot so; we really did not explore the shops and restaurants in this area nor the attractions. I will be doing that on my next visit and I will definitely post the pictures here too, how's that?This is a famous area where tourists would take pictures that looks like they are in UK.
There are shops and restaurants and inside they are already decorating for Christmas. As you can see by the windows inside, there are Christmas trees set up already.We are heading to Canada and other countries. Each countries have restaurants which are native to their places. I love their building designs and really looks like the architecture found in United Kingdom.
The landscaping is awesome and from time to time, you will gonna encounter Disney characters along the way.The weather is okay during this time and it's getting cooler. I would recommend that you visit Disney World's Epcot theme parks especially during the wine and food tasting event. Check that out next year, it's awesome!

Just Different

I was just watching a talk show and they are talking about family and marriage. I noticed that two of the invited panelists were okay when their teenagers party every night. They even tolerate them when they buy Party enhancers and do crazy stuffs in the bar. They gave so much freedom and I would see it as the other way. Maybe, they do not care about their kids. Children needs guidance from parents but, it seems that they are out of touch from reality.

It's Christmas!

Hello everyone! It is the first day of December and I can feel the spirit of Christmas already! Are you excited? Christmas is the most awaited celebration in the calendar because most of us celebrate Christmas even the non-believers joins the celebration! It is the time of reunion, family get-together, gift giving and just being with the person you love, right? I went home to PI last year and I celebrate my Christmas in my place but, I was too busy that I missed some of the tradition of this season. The next time that I will come home, I will make sure that it will be for a vacation.Anyway, these are the pictures that I took at the gate of our village. Grand Europa Village always put up nice Christmas decorations at the gate and some of the trees along the main road side throughout the village.
I am only using my blackberry phone so; some of the pictures are blurry.

Where is Michelle Parker?

There are too many negative news on TV and somehow, we are affected by what's happening around us. We are very cautious with the new faces in the neighborhood and at night, we can't sleep good if the alarm is not on. We probably are worried when members of the family did not come home on time.

Though we are cautious sometimes, we are caught off-guard. And that's what happened to Michelle Parker. She went missing Nov.17, 2011 after she dropped off her twins in Carter Glen condominium here in Orlando. She just vanished with no traces of her whereabouts.The last person who saw her is her ex-fiance, Dale Smith ll, the father of her children. Her Hummer was found but, Michelle was nowhere in sight. I love musical decors and I bought three items already. The first was Santa Claus singing a Christmas song then, the animated turkey playing a musical instrument as it dances and finally, this enchanted broom.I bought this in Cracker Barrel where we frequent for breakfast. The whole nation was intrigued by the case of Casey Anthony. It was July 5, 2011, Casey Anthony walked out from prison as a FREE woman. It was one of the most sensational murder trials of all time and it all happen here in Orlando, Florida. Just 10 minutes away from where I live. She'd been accused of killing her daughter, Caylee who is only 3 years old in 2008 when the crime happened. What really happened to Caylee? We will never know because the only key to all this is Casey Anthony, the mother. The jurors found her NOT GUILTY and NO ONE saw it coming. The most loved prosecutor in this case is Jeff Ashton and this book contain explosive new information. This case has the verdict that shocked us all! This book tells the behind-the-scenes story of the investigation and the trial. Three years of lies and sheer luck made Casey a free woman! This book cannot undo the verdict but, it helps us understand why imperfect justice exist! I want to read this book.

Watching the Cloud Formation

Isn't it nice? Whether short road trip or not, my camera is ready for taking pictures. Actually, this picture was taken with my blackberry phone. Oh well, sometimes I can capture good photos and other times, blurry but, considering we are traveling 60mph, not bad at all huh?In the still of the night and this time, my caption was bad. This particular night was beautiful because the moon was so bright and the cloud formation was awesome. I can only have a blurry picture when I tried to zoom it in. I love the skies of Florida when it is like this. See the tail like cloud? That is my focus of this picture. I just thought that it was unique LOL. This is my shallow activity huh!
When I have a picture like this, it inspire me to really get my DSLR camera sooner. Black Friday is fast approaching so; I hope I can find a good deal.When there is a minor storm in Florida, the clouds look like this. Pretty scary right? You don't know what's behind those clouds. I do not want to see the Tornado though.I love watching the cloud formation because I feel at peace and I appreciate the nature that God provided for us. Amazing Sunset

At about 9 AM today, we already went out to do some errands before we head to an hour drive to meet our realtor. Yep! We are still looking for houses that we love to live maybe for the rest of our lives! Too bad though, our dream house was sold just tonight! They accepted the offer maybe higher than what we bid! Anyway, we are still waiting for another bid that we had today and the respond will be tomorrow. If that home will be meant for us then, we are happy. If not, we will wait and keep looking.We drove down the scenic route because we love to see the beach. I told hubby that I wanted to eat Chinese food so; we did order to go. We found a public park along the Melbourne, Florida area and stayed there for a picnic.The water on the beach was rough and so I took some pictures. Hubby and I decided to re-visit the other home that we bid so that if in case the seller asked us to bid higher, we know what to respond. For the second time, we love the location and the place. The house is immaculate! Anyway, we went home but along the way, I found the store that I was looking for, BELK. I told hubby that I wanted to buy boots in that store. Well, we are not rushing to go home so, he lets me shop for a little bit.I bought two boots and yeah, we head home. Oh not really! LOL! Hubby said, we need to see the property located just two miles away. We decided to see the house and we do not like the neighborhood. Finally, we went home and when we were on the road, I took these pictures. Oh! The sunset was so pretty though, my camera captured it so badly :-) I should buy me a DSLR soon so that I can capture the amazing sunset!

Favorite Cast of Amazing Race

Bill and Cathi lived in Oregon and both are Educators by profession. At present they own a ranch and they are farmers. Though they are the oldest casts in Amazing Race, they compete well and they always finish in a good spot.

They are highly intellectuals and they are also sports enthusiasts. Meaning, if there are physical tasks, they can accomplish it well. I like them too because they do not yell to each other and they do not put a blame on one another. They just enjoy the competition.

Do You Have Slippers?

He has nothing! Come to think of it, you live a good life compared to this man. Why keep on complaining about life? You should be thankful for what you have! 1996, I was hired as a teacher for third grade in a remote location in the city. We had to walk 4-6 hours to arrive the destination of that baranggay. The place is called BESIGAN and the baranggay has a nice mountain view with untouched water falls. It took us long hours to walk because the contour of the land was steep and we had to cross the river and hills. It was tiring but, we are so excited with our job and serve the community. Just like the picture above, the students take pride of what they have. Their slippers/flip-flops are clean and you can tell that they only use it to go to school or when they go to the market. When they are at home, they love to play barefoot. Slippers are price possession for them. One time, it was raining so hard and time to finish the class. I saw the children took out a big plastic bag with Gaisano/Ororama prints and cover their school bags. They put their slippers inside the school bag and head home without umbrella and raincoats. I told them that they should wear the slippers to protect their feet but, they told me that they do not want their slippers to get dirty.

This month, we have the three visitors coming from the Philippines and Spain. My husband and I enjoyed having them live with us for few weeks because they keep us busy every day. We made an instant cruise booking to Bahamas, tour them to Disney theme parks, went to Key West and St. Petersburg and accompany them wherever they go. That experience was a blast and we love it. We will definitely have another cruising with them when they come next year. Anyway, we are planning to travel to Europe or Asia on February so; we check tour booking. We are saving money now so we can push through our vacation early next year. Our visitor from the Philippines already invited us to call him when we need a van to roam around the historical places in the country. My husband is really excited to visit these places especially the old American Military Bases. We wanted to hire a van with the driver so; we can go places wherever we want without the fear of being lost in the area. Besides, we wanted to invite some family and friends too that is why we wanted a van which is good for 13 passengers.

Her Best Career Ever

In an unexpected place, I saw my friend from college. I was inside the shopping mall and she saw me first then, she invited me for a cup of coffee. We were both teachers back home and for so many years, I never heard from her. I thought she was teaching but, she told me she went back to school and study law. With sheer determination, she graduated with flying honors. She is now a lawyer and happily married living in California. She loves her career now and currently busy with a tough case brief. She did not elaborate but, she said she had no regrets having to switch careers. She loves people and it was her dream to defend the cases of those who are wrongly accused. Anyway, she is working in a firm that provides legal advice and legal counsel in many areas such as product liability, injury, accident, and employment law. They have a mission to provide consumer protection so; when clients seek for justice in cases like wrongful death, brain injury, and birth injury, their firm is the best in the area. Well, the meeting that we have was a blessing in disguise. We were able to catch up with what is going on with our lives. It was a real fun day for both of us!

The Christian Dating

I was a teacher for more than ten years and because of my work, I have no time to go out and party. After school, I was already tired when I get home. The traffic as I commute from my workplace to home would make me lazy to go out and have the fun. I forgot about myself as I become workaholic. When I was in my thirties, I started dating seriously. I was really praying that through Christian dating I will find my partner of life. God must have heard my prayers because I married to a believer of Jesus Christ. We are married for four years now and we are both happy. How about you? Have you found your soul mate yet? Just pray that God will show you the way to meet the man of your dreams. Did you know that compatibility is very important to make a relationship lasts longer? You need to get along with what you believe and what makes you like to do. Planking in the Philippines

When I saw these pictures, I was blown away! He loves Planking and he would brag about it to his students. Oh yeah, he is a high school teacher from the Philippines. If you wanna know why he is into planking, let me know and you can interview him yourself (",).The picture above is hard to do because of those slippery green algae on the rock hehehe. he did it though!
Planking is a Lying Down Game and as you can see, he was face down in an unusual place. His hands touch the sides of the body. If this is a competition, the selection of the location to execute the planking is the best because the place is unusual and original.The planking above is hard to execute too. Imagine him doing this with teachers and students watching him (",). I bet I can't do planking because my nose will look like a bulldog in 2 minutes, LOL. Good thing Choi has pointed nose to level his body while doing the planking. Planking refers to mimicking a wooden plank and rigidity of the body must be performed to make a good planking. My friend did well!

Some People Are Born Tactless

Just this week, I encountered a person who is tactless! I would not mind if I know her for so long but, I just met her as an acquaintance maybe three months ago. I was a bit reluctant to befriend her because she talk too much. There was a red flag when I was with her ONE TIME. She talk most of the time about the people she met and how miserable their life is. I do not like to listen to stories of people who cannot defend themselves. That was a red flag for me. Some people are born tactless, this maybe vague as a statement but, it means deeper than that and she was so tactless. This person did not respect anyone and she thought she was better than anyone else! It never occurred to her that what she said was insensitive. I wish her well but, I do not want to be associated with this type of personality. I smell trouble!

Parking Lot Near the Cruise Terminal

When I book our cruise ship vacation, the next step that I have in mind was whether to fly to Miami or rent a car. When I check all the rental cars such as Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz and Alamo, all cars were rented out from Orlando for October 17. The only option left was drive our own car and leave it at a private parking lot.I searched for parking lots nearby the port and I found one. I reserved it for 4 days and it cost us $48 and the transfer from the parking lot to the port is free for two people. The parking lot is Premier Parking Ventures and the place is okay because it's nearby the port. When we arrive the parking lot, the place is small and the system is chaotic. We give our reservation paper and park to wherever we want. Then, we waited for the van to pick us up and transport us to the port. We arrived first but, we were accommodated on the second van. It was raining and we were standing out in the rain. They have no waiting area.

Residency or No?

I recently received a job offer as a resident at a hospital. I have the night shift, which makes me feel worried about being gone during the night. I checked out Home Security santa ana to make me feel a little safer about leaving my wife safe at night. I want to someday be the chief of the entire staff, but that means that I need to take this job on the night rotation staff. I wouldn’t even be worried about it if my wife hadn’t told me literally 2 days ago that she’s pregnant with our first child. She’s a night nurse, so my offer to go on nights would have been perfect, but now she’s going to step down from her position to be a mom. I’m already worried about leaving them at home alone at night. I guess we will deal with all of these things within the next few weeks- and I need to decide if I want to take this job or not! It always seems like everything happens at once! I’m praying for guidance in this situation.

Such a Beautiful Sky

Isn't it beautiful? Here I go again, doing my sky watching! When we have our short road trip to Mississippi last month, I told my husband that we will have to go to Ship Island. We will ride a ferry for less than $25 each. Since we have an extra day to wander the Gulf Coast, he agreed but, when we were on the port, the captain told us that they postponed the sail to Ship Island. There was a weather disturbance and the storm was really bad.

While hubby and the captain where talking, my eyes were glued on the sky! OMG! The sky was amazing and the clouds were like a painting!
The sky was great but, they know better when there is a coming storm!We went back to our hotel and later on went shopping in the Singing River Mall. I used to call it as the "ghost mall" because there was nobody there! Few customers and the price at Macys and other stores, so unbelievable!What a glorious day it was! I had fun shopping and later that day, hubby and I went to the Isle to play the slot machines. Okay! I lost a bit of money but, it was alright! We had fun anyway! This is the view of the Gulf Coast!
